HALLEL: Out Now!
Listen to Sam’s new album of original music for Hallel, a set of Psalms once sung in the Temple in Jerusalem and now sung by Jews all over the world on joyous occasions. In order to harness the deep spiritual potential of the ancient liturgy in a new way, Sam composed a set of melodies with the goal of bringing raw emotion back into the synagogue and animating the amazing emotional journey to which this ancient liturgy invites us.

"...and the earth then was welter and waste and darkness over the deep and God's breath hovering over the waters..." (trans. Robert Alter)
Bereshit Rabba 2:4
"Reish Lakish solved the Verse...By what merit is the spirit of redemption made usable and brought into the world? The answer can be found in the verse: "...Hovers over the face of the waters" (Genesis 1:2) - meaning that it is by the merit of teshuva (repentance), which is likened to water, as it is said, "Pour out your heart like water." (Lamentations 2:19)." (trans. Sam Tygiel)
