Prayer
Sam Tygiel is a passionate and creative prayer leader with experience leading traditional and experimental services. Combining familiar and unfamiliar melodies, nusach, rhythm and rich mythological imagery, Sam leads intense, soulful services that bring the wild imagination of our ancestors to life through the collective voice of the community. In addition to leading services, he also works with communities around the imagery and language of the siddur, aiming to increase liturgical literacy and inspire Jewish leaders and congregants to take active roles in prayer.

Teaching
Sam’s teaching focuses on discovering spiritual curiosity and connection through off the beaten path texts, stories and ancestral Ashkenazi religious practices. Sam draws on often ignored parts of Tanakh (The Hebrew Bible), long forgotten midrashim (Rabbinic stories and interpretations), and mystical wisdom from Kabbalistic and Hasidic sources to weave together Torah learning, and ritual practice. His classes strive to seek for the small revelations of Divine insight and wisdom possible in everyday moments and especially at the intersection of the intellectual and spiritual interplay of teacher and student and prayer leader and congregation.
